The Boston Swan Boats have been a tradition here since 1877. One can take a leisurely ride in the Public Garden "lagoon." Each boat is a human powered
catamaran, and can seat up to 20 passengers. The pedals for the operator are creatively hidden behind swan forms, hence the name "swan
boat." One can relax and watch the people stroll through the gardens, or cross the bridge on their way to Arlington or Charles Streets.
The fare for a swan boat ride is relatively inexpensive for an urban attraction, and is a great way to spend part of an
afternoon on a pretty summer day. There are upscale shops and cafes on nearby
Newbury Street, and often people walk the Back Bay section this way instead of taking the MBTA Green Line for one or two
subway stops. Newbury Street begins at the Public Garden at Arlington Street.
Cheers Beach Hill is right across Beacon
Street from the garden.
